Call to Order
Melissa Backscheider called the meeting to order at 7:44 p.m. in The Christ Hospital Classroom #4.
Secretary’s Report
The minutes from the March 8, 2011 were approved as corrected.
Treasurer’s Report
Nancy Hellman reported a checking account balance of
$4, 647.57 and a savings account balance of $18,043.32.
Congress Report
Lois Belton reported to the Chapter the highlights of the Congress in Philadelphia. A written copy was submitted to the secretary to be included in the written minutes.
National Correspondence
Melissa reported on upcoming free webinars available from National. The topics will include: “Take your AORN Involvement to the National Level”, “Health Care Reform-What does is mean to US?”, “Increase Sharps Injuries in Surgical Setting after Passage of National Needlestick Legislation”, and “Using evidence-based research in Clinical Practice”
Committee Reports
Program
Melissa reported, on behalf of Priscilla Moeller, that the May educational topic would be on “Biofilms: Cities of Slime” which is the rescheduled topic from January. She stated that the June educational topic would be either Shoulder Arthroscopy or Total joints. The educational topic for September will be Endocrinology.
Legislation
Melissa reported that the Ohio RN circulator bill (HB149) has been introduced to the Ohio House of Representatives.
Ways & Means
Rick Goedde suggested that some of the proceeds from the Golf outing go to the Chiari Malformation Foundation, since Dr. Fitzpatrick’s (a local surgeon) children are affected by this condition. A motion was made and passed that one-fourth of the Golf outing proceeds would be given to the Chiari Foundation, one-fourth to the Cincinnati Freestore, and one-half to the Chapter.
Melissa Backscheider stated that she would check with Linda Kiser about the availability of the fall brochure for the bulb sales fundraiser.
Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee presented the slate of candidates running for Chapter offices for the upcoming year. The offices and candidates are: Linda Dreeszen running for President-elect, Donna Schlemmer running for Treasurer, Jeannie Kiser, Nelda Chandler and Karen Thompson running for the Board of Directors, and Linda Rulon and Susan Brown running for the Nominating Committee.
New Business
Nancy Hellman charged the Board of Directors to investigate the feasibility of purchasing a laptop computer for the purpose of educational presentations, due to the technical difficulties the educations speakers have encountered during the last 2 months. The President-Elect would be responsible for maintaining and bring the laptop to the Chapter meetings.
Announcements
Melissa Backscheider stated that the Standard of Care skin prep drying time was now set at three minutes, which was verified by a recent Joint Commission surveyor visit.
She also stated that the next Chapter meeting will be on May 10, 2011 in Classroom 4 at The Christ Hospital.
Educational Raffle
The April Educational Raffle was won by Ruth Eyerman.
